Originally from The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zola Makanda, a Freshman Forward on the Men’s Soccer team is one of the team’s most valuable players. The Nursing Transfer student attended Bensalem High School and has been playing soccer since the age of 2.
Makanda has found a second home in Manor College and truly enjoys his time here. His favorite class is Chemistry with Dr.Senecoff. Makanda finds that the small class size and friendly environment of the college is what makes Manor so special.
When he’s not on the soccer field or studying chemistry, Makanda can be found playing video games or reading the Bible. Makanda has a strong faith that is evident even when just speaking to him briefly. A humble soccer player, Makanda continues to receive support from his teacher, coach and mentor from Bensalem High School, Susan Cantwell.
Makanda was recently featured in an article by Philly.com that outlined his difficult and inspirational journey from the Congo to Bensalem, P.A. where he is currently flourishing as a student-athlete here at Manor College.
Makanda’s dream goal is to become a travelling nurse. With the support of his soccer coach, John Dempster and a bright future ahead of him, it is no doubt that Makanda will fulfil his dream. Manor College is fortunate to have a Makanda as part of the student body.
