JENKINTOWN, PA—Bronx Community College (2-5 Overall) freshman guard Tilquan Rucker led both teams with 32 points (including the go-ahead three-point basket with under a minute remaining in the second half) as the Broncos defeated the Manor College Blue Jays (2-7), 85-84, in a non-conference game.
Bronx is in Region XV and plays at the Division III level. They are also a member of the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC).
Manor led at halftime, 43-37. However, the Broncos outscored the Blue Jays in the second half, 48-41.
Individual Statistical Leaders: All of the Manor starters scored in double figures, led by freshman forward Yoshua Diaz' (Philadelphia, PA/Dobbins) 20 points. Freshmen Robert Tucker (center) (Philadelphia, PA/Paul Robeson) (11 points and team-leading 11 rebounds) and Carl Robinson (forward) (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) (11 points and 10 rebounds) each contributed "double-doubles". Freshman guard Maleek View (Philadelphia, PA/Central) scored 17 points and paced the Blue Jays with five assists. Freshman guard Jewel Funchess (Philadelphia, PA/Olney) added 10 points.
Rucker also had a "double-double" with 10 rebounds and led both teams with seven steals. Sophomore guard Hector Montano contributed a "double-double" with 16 points and paced both squads with 14 rebounds. Freshman guard Malik Hamilton scored 19 points and led both teams with seven assists. Freshman forward Elijah Lopez came off the bench to score 10 points.
Series Record (since 1994-1995, but, the 2001-2002 season is unavailable): Manor and Bronx are meeting for the first time.
Manor versus Region XV: Manor is 0-4 versus Region XV schools, including 0-2 at home.
Next Game: Manor hosts Region XIX Division II Mercer County Community College 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 6. The Blue Jays are 12-10 versus the Lions (including 7-3 at home) and has won six straight match-up (including three consecutive at home). Manor swept last season's series, 82-81, on November 14, 2017 (on the road), and, 88-77, on February 22, 2018 (at home).
