MANOR COLLEGE BASEBALL LOSES GAME ONE OF A ROAD DOUBLEHEADER VERSUS PENN STATE UNIVERSITY-SCRANTON

DUNMORE, PA—United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Pennsylvania State University-Scanton (3-9) junior left fielder Jake Sullivan went three-for-four with two runs scored, five runs batted in, and a stolen base and junior shortstop Alex Brinkman went two-for-three (including a home run), two runs scored, two RBI, and four stolen bases as the Nittany Lions defeated the Manor College Blue Jays (0-5), 14-3, in five innings, in game one of a road doubleheader at Matt McGloin Baseball Field.

Manor opened the scoring with all of its runs, batting around in the top of the first.  Junior center fielder Manny Roach (Medford, NJ/Life Center Academy) led off the game with a walk. Junior shortstop Charlie Levy (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) outfield single to second advanced Roach to second.  Junior third baseman Nate Perez (Newark, NJ/Donald M. Payne School of Technology) was hit by a pitch which loaded the bases.  While junior first baseman Eric Engesser (Downingtown, PA /Downingtown West) was batting, Roach scored on a wild pitch, and Levy and Perez moved up one base.  Levy scored on a swinging strikeout, catcher to first, and Perez advanced to third.  Freshman catcher Shawn Navas (Levittown, PA/Neshaminy) walked with one out. While freshman starting pitcher Victor Veyan (Fairfax, VA/C.G. Woodson) was batting Navas stole second, and Perez scored on freshman catcher Jake Iacavazzi's throwing error.  

Scranton scored twice in the bottom half.  Brinkman hit a one-out solo home run.  Junior first baseman Logan Moss walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and stole third.  Moss scored on a Sullivan ground out, second to first.

The Nittany Lions took the lead for good in the third, scoring four runs.  They sent 10 batters in the fourth, scoring four runs.  Scranton scored three times in the fifth, and the game ended with a one-out Sullivan two-run single, scoring Brinkman and sophomore designated hitter Michael Igneri Jr.

Batting Leaders: Shawn Navas walked twice and Roach walked three times.  They also each stole a base.

Junior center fielder Keegan Litts contributed two hits, a walk, three runs scored and three stolen bases.  Igneri Jr doubled, walked twice, and scored two runs. Junior second baseman Martino Tobasco contributed two hits, four RBI, and a stolen base.

Pitching Leaders: Veyan (0-1) started and pitched four innings. Sophomore Alexander Rebitz (Cheltenham, PA/Cheltenham) finished the game for the Blue Jays.

Freshman Paulie Maccarrone (1-0) started and pitched the first three innings, striking out four and allowing one hit. Senior John Paffenroth finished the game, striking out two in two innings.
