JENKINTOWN, PA—Manor College Women's Flag Football defeated the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIX Montgomery Community College Mustangs at home in its final game of the season, 25-0.
This game took place next to the Mother of Perpetual Help Hall on the Manor campus on a partly sunny afternoon.
Manor was the first to go on offense and scored on its only possession of the quarter. It took four plays (including two first down runs) to score. Freshman quarterback Faith Darlington (Philadelphia, PA Sankofa Freedom Academy Charter School) scored on a first down with around seven left in the opening quarter. The Blue Jays converted the one-point point after touchdown when Darlington completed her pass to senior wide receiver Lauren Brown (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert).
Montgomery County took its initial possession of the first and for the remainder of the first and early into the second quarter. The Mustangs were sacked three times in the four plays, three by Brown and sophomore linebacker Tori Simmons (Cheltenham, PA/Cheltenham). They ran 13 plays, kept the drive going by converting two fourth down plays, and advanced into Manor territory. However, they were stopped on downs, following Brown's third sack during Montgomery County's possession.
The Blue Jays moved the ball deep into Mustang territory during its nine-play drive with a pair of first downs, including one on third down. Manor got inside the 20-yard, but the possession ended on downs.
Manor's defense kept Montgomery County deep in their own territory. Brown sacked the Mustang quarterback for a fourth time and three plays later, they had to punt it back to the Blue Jays. The Montgomery County punter, who was lined up in the end zone, did not punt much beyond the line of scrimmage. Simmons returned the very short punt into the end zone for Manor's first special teams touchdown as time expired. The Blue Jays' one-point conversion was not successful and they led 13-0 at halftime.
Montgomery County's first second-half possession ended on a bad snap on fourth down.
Manor scored quickly on its first second-half possession and only one in the third quarter. They began their possession with under ten minutes left in the third inside the Montgomery County 20-yard. Darlington ran the ball into the end zone on third and goal for her second touchdown of the game with around seven minutes left. The one-point conversion was unsuccessful when a Mustang defender intercepted Darlington's pass in the end zone.
The Mustangs took possession with under six minutes remaining and for the remainder of the third and early into the fourth quarter. Montgomery County converted a third and fourth down during this 11-play got inside the Manor 20-yard line. Their drive ended on fourth-and-goal on an incomplete pass.
Manor took over with around ten minutes left, but their drive lasted four plays and punted the ball back to Montgomery County.
Montgomery County started their possession with around five minutes left and they also punted it back to Manor after three plays. Sophomore Emma Sykes (Philadelphia, PA/Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush High School) returned it back inside the Mustang 20-yard line
The Blue Jays scored quickly on their final possession of the game. Their possession began with three minutes remaining. Darlington ran and scored her third touchdown of the game on second-and-goal with 1:51 left. The one-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful.
The Mustangs got the possession back with under one minute left and ran one play before the game ended.
The game lasted 1:13 and there were approximately 50 people watching the Manor's Women's Flag Football final game of the season.
