MANOR COLLEGE MEN’S BASKETBALL LOSES ROAD OPENER VERSUS PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIVERSITY-HAZLETON

HAZLETON, PA—United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division II Pennsylvania State University-Hazleton (2-0) junior Andre Campbell scored 20 points and contributed five assists as the Nittany Lions defeated the eighth-ranked USCAA Division I Manor College Blue Jays (1-1), 83-59.

This is the first time Manor is facing Penn State University-Hazleton since joining the USCAA.  The Blue Jays previously played the Nittany Lions on November 28, 1994 in Hazleton (Hazleton won, 81-80) when Manor was a Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (EPCC) and Hazleton was a Community College Athletic Conference (CCAC) member.  They previously played a PSUAC school on November 11, 2022 versus Wilkes-Barre in the Electric City Classic Semifinals at NCAA Division III Marywood University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

Hazleton took the lead for good, 5-4, on senior Dante Harward's three-point basket with 18:58 remaining in the first half.  The Blue Jays got as close as 11-7 on junior forward Cheikh Diagne's (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast) three-point basket with 15:40 left.  Manor scored 10 straight points over a 3:06 stretch (between 3:25 and 0:19 left) to close the gap towards the end of the first half.  The Nittany Lions led at halftime, 44-29.  Campbell led both teams with 15 points.  

Manor got as close as 45-31 with 18:56 remaining on senior guard Namir Simmons' (Philadelphia, PA/Quality Academy Prep) layup. The Nittany Lions outscored the Blue Jays in the second half, 39-30.   

Statistical Leaders: Simmons led Manor with 13 points, three assists and two steals.  Diagne paced the Blue Jays with eight rebounds.

In addition to Campbell, Harward scored 12 points.  Senior Connor Rushing led both benches with 10 points. Rushing and senior Joey Lombardo, who also came off the bench, paced the Nittany Lions with five rebounds apiece.

Next Game: The Blue Jays travel to play the NCAA Division I Wagner College Seahawks on Saturday, November 9 at 1 p.m. at the Spiro Sports Center in Staten Island, New York.  This will be the first time Manor will be playing a NCAA Division I varsity team in any sport since joining the USCAA.

The Blue Jays are 3-1 overall (2-1 on the road) versus NCAA Division III varsity schools since 2021. They are also 1-0 overall (0-0 on the road) versus NCAA Division III junior varsity schools since 2021.  Manor is 5-5 overall (0-0 on the road) versus New York colleges and universities since 2021.  The Blue Jays were 5-8 overall (all on the road) versus NCAA Division I junior varsity schools between 1995 and 2016 when they were Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (EPCC) (1990-2008) and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) (2008-2020) Division II members.
