NEWTOWN, PA—United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Pennsylvania State University-Fayette (1-10) scored in every inning and each member of the starting lineup had two hits each as the Nittany Lions defeated the Manor College Blue Jays (0-3), 14-3, in six innings, in game one of its home opening doubleheader at Brian Seibert Memorial Field at Bucks County Community College.
The Nittany Lions opened the scoring with a two-out run in the first inning. Freshman shortstop Connor Perry reached on an infield single to short. He advanced to second on a throwing error. Perry advanced to third on a second-year starting pitcher-designated hitter Remington Lessman's ground out to first for the second out. Third-year catcher AJ Segarra was hit by a pitch. Second-year center fielder Manny Stitch reached on fielding error which scored Perry
Manor tied the game in the first with two out. Junior second baseman Charlie Levy (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) tripled to right field. Freshman right fielder Will Murray (West Hampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional) single to center field scored Levy.
Fayette took the lead for the first time with two out in the second. Second-year right fielder James Knapton singled to right with one out. Perry advanced Knapton to second on a two-out infield single to short. Second-year catcher Frank Macione's single to right scored Knapton.
The Nittany Lions took the lead for good, scoring two runs in the third. Segarra led off with an infield single to second that deflected to center. Stitch advanced Segarra to second on a single to left. Second-year left fielder Ashton Ray's sacrifice bunt, pitcher to first, advanced both baserunners up one base each for the first out. Freshman third baseman Lucas Vilchoz walked, but a passed ball scored Segarra on the play for the go-ahead run and advanced Stitch to third. Vilchoz stole second with Knapton at the plate. Knapton's ground out to first scored Ray to increase their lead to 3-1.
The Blue Jays scored twice in the bottom of the third. Freshman shortstop Dominic Innins (Nassau, Bahama /Home School) led off with a triple to left. Sophomore center fielder Lucky Lindley's (Montclair, VA/Forest Park) sacrifice fly to right scored Innins. Levy tied the game at three on his first Manor home run to left off Lessman to put Manor within, 4-3
Fayette added two runs with two out in the fourth. Perry led off with a walk and was balked to second. Two outs later, Segarra's double to left-center scored Perry with the go-ahead run.
The Nittany Lions added to its lead again with two runs in the fifth. Ray and Vilchoz led off the inning with consecutive singles to left. Knapton's sacrifice bunt, pitcher to first, advanced the baserunners up one base each for the first out. Freshman second baseman Hunter Smiley's triple to left scored Ray and Vilchoz and increased Fayette's lead to 6-3.
Fayette completed its scoring, batting around in the sixth, sending 11 batters to plate, and scored seven runs.
Batting Leaders: Levy went three-for-three, including a double, triple, and a home run. He also scored two runs, contributed an RBI, and a stolen base.
Perry scored three runs, walked twice, and stole a base. Macioce knocked in two runs and stole a base. Stitch scored two runs. Ray led both teams with three RBI, contributed a double, and a sacrifice bunt. Vilchez scored twice, doubled, and stole a base. Knapton scored twice and had two RBI. He also doubled and contributed a sacrifice bunt. Smiley had two RBI and a triple.
Pitching Leaders: Senior Cidrick Navas (Levittown, PA/Samuel Fels) (0-2) started and pitched five innings.
Lessman (1-3) pitched a complete game, striking out nine. He allowed three runs on six hits and three walks.
