MANOR COLLEGE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL LOSES REGULAR SEASON OPENER ON THE ROAD VERSUS MIDDLESEX COLLEGE

EDISON, NJ—Middlesex College (3-2) sophomore guard Gabriella Nieves led the team with 16 points as the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIX Division II Colts defeated the Manor College Blue Jays (0-1), 78-54.

This game begins Manor's 65th season and is the Blue Jays' longest running varsity athletics program.

This is the Blue Jays' first game versus the Colts since November 17, 2017 when Manor was a NJCAA Region XIX DIvision II member and Middlesex was NJCAA Division III.  Manor won at home, 79-42.  This the Blue Jays first visit to the Physical Education Center since December 6, 2016.  Manor won, 82-77.

Manor scored the games' first seven points and also led by seven points twice more on freshman point guard Kyjanae Cooper's (Philadelphia, PA/Mastery Charter-Pickett Campus) layup (9-2) and sophomore forward/guard Edrina Fields (Philadelphia, PA/Agora Cyber School Charter) (12-5).  Middlesex responded with a 13-1 run and led by 18-13 on sophomore guard Genilah Singleton's three-point basket.  The Colts took the lead for good during this run, 15-13, on Nieves' free throws.  The Blue Jays would get as close as three points three times on Cooper's layup (18-15), Cooper's free throw (19-16), and Fields' jump shot (21-18).  Middlesex led 22-18 after the first quarter.  The Blue Jays' 18 first quarter points are the most they scored in any quarter since scoring 14 in the third quarter versus NJCAA Region XIX Division III Lehigh Carbon Community College on  February 20, 2025.  Manor;s 18 first quarter points are the most since scoring 11 versus USCAA Division II and Eastern States Athletic Conference (ESAC) foe Central Pennsylvania College on December 13, 2022 in its first USCAA home opener.  Cooper led both teams with 13 points.  Freshman guard Kendall Dixon paced the Colts with 10 points.

Middlesex opened up its first of its two largest first half leads,  27-18, on a Singleton three-point basket and jump shot.  Manor responded with a 10-3 run and closed the deficit to 30-28 on sophomore forward Tori Simmons' (Cheltenham, PA/Cheltenham). The Colts answered with a 9-2 run and led, 39-30, on a Nieves free throw.  Middlesex outscored Manor in the second quarter, 17-14, and led 39-32 at halftime.  The Blue Jays' 32 first half points are the most since scoring 40 at NJCAA Region XIX Division III  Camden County College on February 14, 2019.  Cooper led both teams with 20 first-half points.  Dixon and Nieves led the Colts with 10 first-half points apiece.

The Blue Jays would get as close by, 39-34, on Cooper's layup to open up the third quarter scoring for both teams.  Middlesex outscored Manor in the third quarter, 21-9, and led, 60-41.  Cooper led both teams after three quarters with 29 points and Nieves paced the Colts with 16 points after three quarters.

Middlesex outscored Manor in the fourth quarter, 18-13.  Cooper led both teams with 13 points in the final quarter.  The Colts outscored the Blue Jays in the second half, 39-22.   Manor's 22 second half points are the most since scoring 22 versus Lehigh Carbon on February 20, 2025,   Cooper led both teams with 22 second half points.  Freshman forward Danielle Salvesen came off the bench and paced Middlesex with 10 second half points.

The 54 points in a game scored by Manor are the most since they scored 53 at NJCAA Region XIX Division III Community College of Philadelphia on February 19, 2019.  The Blue Jays also scored the most overall field goals made (19), made the most free throws (11), and contributed the most assists (11) since making their USCAA debut during the 2022-2023 season.

Statistical Leaders: In her collegiate debut, Cooper set the following Manor school single-game records since its first USCAA season in 2022-2023: Overall field goals made (14), three-point field goals made (five), three-point field goal attempts (15), free throws made (nine), free throw attempts (19), defensive rebounds (10), and points (42).  She tied the following Blue Jay school single-game records since the 2022-2023 season: overall field goal attempts (35) and total rebounds (12).  Cooper also led Manor with five steals and tied for the team lead in assists with freshman guard Gardith Pierre (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast) with three.

Cooper's Scoring Feats:  Cooper became the first Blue Jay to score more than 20 points in a game since Kiara Stovall scored 23 at the Community College of Philadelphia on February 19, 2019.  She became the first to score more than 30 since Emazhane Livingston scored 32 versus Bucks County Community College on January 31, 2019.  Cooper became the first to score more than 30 on the road since Carolyn Cosey scored 32 at Harcum College on November 10, 2015.  She became the first to score more than 40 since Jillian Bennett scored 46 versus Central Pennsylvania on January 30, 2006 when the Blue Jays were Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (EPCC) members.

Manor in Regular Season Openers: Manor is looking for its first regular season opening win as a USCAA member and its first since November 2, 2017 (92-23 versus NJCAA Division III Community College of Philadelphia at home).

Manor in Road Openers (Since 2022-2023): The Blue Jays are seeking its first road win as a USCAA school.  They previously won its road opener on November 14, 2017 (57-44 at NJCAA Region XIX Division II Mercer County Community College in Trenton, New Jersey).

Manor on the Road (Since 2022-2023): Manor is 0-1 on the road this season. They are looking for their first road win as a USCAA program.  Manor previously won on the road versus Camden County, 78-39, on February 14, 2019 in Blackwood, New Jersey.

Season Series (Since 2022-2023): This is the first game between the two schools since the Blue Jays made its USCAA debut during the 2022-2023 season.

Manor versus New Jersey Colleges and Universities (Since 2022-2023): Manor is 0-1 overall (0-1 on the road) this season versus New Jersey Colleges and Universities.  They are 0-2 overall (0-1 on the road) versus New Jersey Colleges and Universities since 2022-2023. 

Manor Versus NJCAA Schools (Since 2022-2023): The Blue Jays are 0-1 overall (0-1 on the road) versus NJCAA schools this season. They are 0-3 since 2022-2023.

Next Game: Manor is scheduled to travel to play the NCAA Division III and United East Conference member University of Valley Forge Patriots (0-2 as of November 10) on Wednesday, November 19 at 7 p.m. at The Pit in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.  This is the first time the Blue Jays are playing a NCAA school in a regular season game. The Patriots finished the 2024-2025 season 4-20 overall (3-13 United East).
